Another DENSO team wins trip to Hawaii
Date: 1998-10-15

Once again a team from DENSO MANUFACTURING MICHIGAN, INC. (DMMI) took top honors at HONDA of America Manufacturing Supplier Quality Circle Competition held on August 26, 1998, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

This competition occurs each Spring and Fall and determines who of Honda America’s suppliers will earn the honors to present at Honda Americas Bloc Convention in the late fall.

The Aluminum Heater Core first and third shift team took first in competition against over 24 of Honda’s suppliers for the honor to present at the Hawaii - Americas Bloc Convention to be held October 19-22, 1998.

Team members are Dale Bergler, Christine Brown, Roy Campbell, Brian Daimond, Bill Dawe, Michelle Frantz, Larry Fulcher, Holly Glover, Kevin Moss, Julie Schrader, Tim Sutherland, Butch Weeks and Scott J. Waltman. This team, “The Braze Brats,” worked on their QC to equalize aluminum heater core top and bottom capsule voids, from October 1997 to April 1998.

“We had to build a team from first and third shift due to the number of associates at the line’s start-up,” says Scott Waltman, Aluminum Heater Core senior team leader. “Both teams worked very well together, especially since they were on separate shifts.”

“We would like to thank maintenance, engineering, visitors from DENSO Japan, and the other groups that helped support our QC,” says Waltman.

Accompanying them is DMMI’s “Paul’s Raiders” (Sharon Tenney, Ken Favorite, Walt Krugh, Scott Edwards, Lenny Dyer, Paul Bishop and Dan Friel), who earned first place at a Quality Circle Competition held on March 27, 1998, at Honda of America in Marysville, Ohio.

Quality Circles are teams of employees that work to solve issues pertinent to their work areas. DMMI has used Quality Circles since 1986.

DMMI supplies Honda with radiators, heater and air conditioning parts.
