DMMI associate appointed to board by Gov. Engler
Date: 2002-05-22 Karen Cooper-Boyer, longtime Portage resident and assistant general manager of Human Resources, Corporate Services and Human Resource Systems Planning, at DENSO Manufacturing. Michigan, Inc., Battle Creek, has been appointed to the Michigan Workforce Investment Board by Gov. John Engler.
The board, formerly known as the Governor’s Workforce Commission, serves in an advisory capacity to the governor and the director of the Michigan Department of Career Development. The board’s mission is to identify and develop strategies to improve the skills of Michigan workers.
At DENSO Manufacturing. Michigan, Inc., Cooper-Boyer is responsible for associate relations, compensation and benefits, recruiting, strategic systems planning and associate health, safety and security at DENSO’s Battle Creek plant. She also oversees the training, communication and administration departments.
Before joining DMMI in 1990, Cooper-Boyer worked at Consumers Power Company in various positions, including Consumer Affairs Director in Lansing. She received a master’s degree in educational leadership as well as bachelor's degrees in management and communications from Western Michigan University.
Boyer is a board member of the Kalamazoo Nature Center. In Battle Creek, she is treasurer of the Area Employees Association and a member of Coresource Health Partners Board.
