DENSO welcomes daughters
Date: 1999-04-21 Sixty-three area girls ages 10 to 14 will get a hands-on introduction to the industrial business world when DENSO Manufacturing Michigan, Inc. opens its doors to associates’ daughters on April 22.
This marks the company’s fifth year of participation in Take Our Daughters to Work Day, a growing national event originated by the Ms. Foundation for Women to build self-esteem in adolescent girls and educate them about career options.
Nearly 50 men and women at DENSO have volunteered to mentor the girls and show them the wide range of jobs at the plant, in areas as diverse as accounting, administration, communications, engineering, machine design, robotics, skilled trades, production, purchasing and quality assurance.
The girls’ visit also will include a plant tour, visits to parents’ worksites and hands-on learning activities.
“We’ve continued to have positive feedback from both the associates and the girls. There’s a continued interest in the program because it offers the daughters of associates a chance to see where their parents work and learn more about the workplace,” says Barb Ley, company spokeswoman.
“DENSO enjoys hosting this event because we have such a wide variety of technical and professional jobs to introduce to the girls,” says Ley. “We hope to make this a truly inspiring day for all the daughters.”
